Customer Review: I have always loved this tape, and now I am so happy I finally have it on cd. It includes some hard-to-find gems like: Sting's "Gabriel's Message", and Alison Moyet's "Coventary Carol". I love it!
Customer Review: I got this for Christmas. I am not an overwhelming Mellencamp fan. However, this CD is incredible! It is very well written, thought provoking and not overly cynical. I was grabbed by the first song. If you are looking for something quietly brilliant, understated but with a punch, this is the CD!!! I... more info
Customer Review: When I get a really good cd, I always pass it on. So, this is the second or third time I have bought this cd. I love it! The only thing that could have been better would be including the acoustic verison of "Small Town"!
Customer Review: John Mellencamp sing from the heart about the heartland of our country. His songs give insight into small town farming communities, teenage angst, divorce, dringking, and on and on. He lives in the land where he sings about, so he's not some transplant who has the outsider's view of mid-America.more info
Customer Review: Looking back on my high school years, Scarecrow was one of the most popular and prevalent albums to be released in the 80's, along with Springsteen's "Born In The USA" and, unfortunately, Michael Jackson's "Thriller." (not my thing) Do you realize all 12 tracks on this album were singles? I'm... more info
Customer Review: Freedom's Road is virtually a flawless record. The last one Mellencamp did that I would call near perfect was The Lonesome Jubilee in 1987. The reason I give these albums such a high rating is because all of the tracks are equally strong. Most of Mellencamp's albums have some weak tracks thrown in.... more info
Customer Review: This launched the midwestern live show star squarely onto the national stage, with two huge worldwide hits..the highly conventional "Hurts So Good" as well as the standout "Jack and Diane"; and while the first made him a superstar, the latter proved his terrific ability to weave a tale, a talent he... more info
Customer Review: After the strong but Top 40 style of "American Fool", this album took John a solid step further; the radio ready "Crumblin' Down" broke no new ground, but the biting commentary of the second single, "Pink Houses" showed his disdain for American society; and "The Authority Song" was a fun... more info
Customer Review: Don't get any better then this. Mellencamp had his his own style.....Everybody loved it ,AND the VIOLIN. BUT,BUT,BUT...Why he changed his style from this album, no-one will ever know. IT's NEVER BEEN THE SAME. It's like BABE RUTH, giving up baseball. Man , I miss the BABE MELLENCAMP sound and style.
Customer Review: Although all the songs here are covers of American standards dating back to the rough and tumble depression era - there is nothing dated about the music. Mellencamp is at his finest honey-tinged growl throughout and the tunes will stay with you much longer than modern pop.
