Now in trade paperback for the first time, bestselling author Nelson DeMille brings you the triumphant return of Detective John Corey, in this #1 New York Times bestselling novel that investigates what really happened to TWA Flight 800.
John Corey, former NYPD homicide detective, assigned to the Federal Anti-Terrorist Task Force in the pre-millennium 90's, makes a return appearance in a thoughtful novel offering an alternative to the government's "official" position on what really happened to TWA Flight 800, which crashed off the Long Island coast in the summer of 1996. Accompanying his wife Kate to a memorial marking the five-year anniversary of the crash, Corey's curiosity is aroused by what appears to be a concerted effort by Kate's fellow federal agents to keep him--and her--from investigating a case that appears to be closed. Corey's detecting skills lead him to two witnesses to the crash, who were enjoying an adulterous interlude on the beach at the time the plane went down--and videotaping their sexual escapades while what appears to be a terrorist missile attack takes place in the background. What ratchets up the tension in this capably written thriller is what the reader knows but Corey doesn't as he heads for a showdown with those responsible for the official cover-up as the clock ticks down to the morning of September 11, 2001. DeMille's deft touch with a riddle wrapped in an enigma--what really happened to Flight 800--makes his "what if" scenario a more than plausible theory; you don't have to believe in conspiracies or government cover-ups to find his latest engrossing, entertaining, and enlightening. --Jane Adams
Nelson DeMille is my favorite writer. In this book he took an actual event and made it into an exciting mystery. Very good.
A Strong And Disturbing Thriller:
A long-time DeMille fan, I have to say he's getting better with age, ha ha. Nightfall is a strong and disturbing thriller that treads well between fact and fiction, blending real life with what I hope is only speculation. John Corey is a great wisecracking tough guy hero. I always enjoy my time with him. I think I laughed out loud at least three times while reading this book. At the same time, this story gave me the creeps again and again, especially as it built to its conclusion. The action and... more info
Worth looking into.:
I picked up this book and looked through it, maybe to consider reading after shortly finishing a novel by one of my favorite authors. I instantly read the first five chapters and had a hard time putting it down. Some are not happy with the ending but it does neatly wrap up a good read. Hey it's Nelson DeMille, would you expect any less? I am not a big fan of his, but after enjoying this book so much I will be reading more of his work. This book is worth looking into.
HARD TO BEAT:
I highly recommend reading Night Fall. The characters are fun, plot fast and captivating, but don't forget that much of this story really happened. Do some research on your own and it will pull you into the story. I have just finished Night Fall, and have started Wild Fire. I was hoping for the same intensity and interest to continue on in the series, but it turns out that Night Fall is hard to beat. I don't know if it is because Night Fall is so accurately based on prior events, but I am finding that Wild... more info
