Customer Reviews: Avg. Customer Rating: 4.0 / 5.0 better than gold coast:
One of his better ones: Like some other reviewers, of the DeMille novels I've read, this is the one I liked best. This is a book where you can truly say that the main character is as entertaining as the plot, and that's a bit rare. One rule DeMille sort of breaks is revealing the villain well before the final page, but, in this case, it seems to work. I did not feel like tossing the book aside as soon as I identified the antagonist. Not sure if I agree that the book should have been 100 pages briefer. An expert editor could... Awesome in every way: Nelson DeMille weaves a clever, page turning tale here with the adventures of John Corey. The characters are engrossing and believable, the protagonist all too human but also tough, smart and funny. The story totally sucks you in and keeps you reading until the very end. I've read this book twice and it had me laughing and anxiously anticipating what would happen next both times. Thank you Mr. DeMille for a fantastic tale of murder and treasure hunting. This is a CIS novel!: CIS? Why, it means "call in sick" of course. This novel is one of those that once you get into it, you can't get out of it. There are twists and turns, plots, subplots, and seemingly discontiguous pieces of the puzzle. John Corey puts it all together -- and if you're paying attention, you can too -- but you have to keep all the pieces in your head at the same time. The dramatic climax is a little melodramatic, but the rest of the book makes up for it. If you like this one, read all of DeMille's John Corey...
