Curly girls of the world unite! Sixty-five percent of women have naturally curly hair, but for too long too many of these women have either been at a loss on how to care for their hair properly or, worse, have gone through life pretending they have straight hair. No more. Lorraine Massey, a professional hairstylist and passionate proponent of curly hair, celebrates the curly girl way of life, from hair care to carefree attitude.
Beginning with The Curly Girl's Twelve-Step Program (Step Three: I will accept that the scalp and hair are two different entities with completely different needs, and I will treat them accordingly), CURLY GIRL is an illustrated how-to, support group, and tongue-in-cheek manifesto all in one.
There are tips on shampoo (never daily), conditioners (use lots), drying, combing (only when wet and well-conditioned), styling, getting the right cut, and how to Heal Thy Hair after years of strong detergents and damaging blow-dryers. There are before-and-after photographs, Curly Cues, self-help tests, confessions from curly girls, advice to take to your stylist. And for girls seeking their inner curl, compassion and encouragement to let their hair break free-and to put the fear of frizz behind them forever.
Because from now on there's no such thing as a bad hair day.

Wonderful book for naturally curly hair!:
I love this book! I have had naturally curly hair for 42 years and never had a real grasp on how to care for it until now. I really have got to say that I have learned so much from this book! I would go from one hair care product to another looking for the right one for me, and then I found this book and it explained why none ever worked! I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with naturally curly hair. Great info and easy read.
Only one problem so far:
Until tonight I went two weeks with no shampoo. But, I tried the treatment using heavy cream and my hair smells like vomit. I had to go to shampoo, but even after washing it 3 times with a sulfate free shampoo my hair still smells. I sure hope it goes away overnight or my co-workers won't want to come near me tomorrow.
Where was this book when I was 15?!?:
I am 31 years old. I have battled my hair since it went curly in my teens. It was never a tight curl, but enough to give me grief. I hot rolled, I permed, I blow dried straight, I chopped it off, I relaxed it.....you name it I did it. For the last 16 years, I have spent more money than I care to count on devices and products trying to achieve that gorgeous straight no-frizz hair-model hair - to no avail. In the last 10 years, I have secured a stylist who helped me for the first time keep a manageable... more info
Life Changing:
The ideas in this book have absolutely changed the life of my curly hair! I was really skeptical about the no shampoo thing, but have not used it in 8 weeks and have absolutely no issues with smell or greasy hair. My curls have never looked better and my scalp has never been cleaner than now! I think any hair dresser who might have to deal with a client with curly or wavy hair should be required to read this book.
