a good read:
The book is a good read, I really enjoyed. It gives you some ideas and guidance but it really lack some sort of images, pictures or drawings. I love reading all kinds of books, but when it comes to fashion, I believe we need more than words, we need pictures so we can have a better idea of what is being said, what kind of outfit and style... I mean, we can always imagine, but I would like to get more inspiration through pictures. That's why I didn't rate it 5 stars.
Keep in mind:
I bought this book a couple of years ago because it was recommended by Amazon. I just recently took this book off my shelf and did a little research about the author. I found this article very informative: [...]. The list that Amazon provides for "What makes a good review?" reads "be detailed and specific", and "what would I have wanted to know before I purchased the book". Sticking to their guide lines, this sums it up. I would not have bought this book if I had known Tim Gunn was gay.
Didn't Learn Anything:
I just finished this book and it was quite a disappointment. I didn't really learn anything at all! I do like Tim Gunn's personality, but his fashion advice really isn't specific enough. Yes, there is a chapter on posture. Okay... improving posture is fashionable. Yes, there is a chapter on cleaning out your closet. Get rid of everything that doesn't make you feel fabulous.... fine. Maybe that helps some people, but it's rather general advice. He does have a list of modern style icons. My own... more info
Enjoyed:
This was so much better than some similar style books I have purchased, it is very well written, definitely recommend this.
