Batman: Year One

Batman: Year One
by: Frank Miller

Editorial Review:

A new deluxe trade paperback edition of one of the most important and critically acclaimed Batman adventures ever, written by Frank Miller, author of THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS!

In addition to telling the entire dramatic story of Batman's first year fighting crime, this collection includes reproductions of original pencils, promotional art, script pages, unseen David Mazzucchelli Batman art and more.

Whether you grew up reading Batman comics, watched the campy television show, or eagerly await each new movie, this is the book for you. A retelling of the events that led to Bruce Wayne's becoming Batman, this book combines Frank Miller's tight film-noir writing with David Mazucchelli's solid artwork.

it was a short, but great year:

What a great graphic novel! The tale of Batman begins here, and Frank Miller does an excellent job! This paces like a movie, and I had it finished in a half hour, which left me sad, but I'd rather that than it drag on! Do yourself a favor - if you're a Batman fan, pick this up!

An excellent starting of the Batman mythos:

I recommend this book to all fans(who probably already have it) and to anyone just starting to read comics and interested in Batman. Frank Miller made three characters really standout in this novel. Batman who gives us the beginning of a dark figure fighting for justice in a cruel jungle of steel and cement. Gordon the first white knight to bring hope to a city that has lost it. And last the the city itself, Gotham. This city is dark, rotten, evil to the core. The only thing it could do was get help. This... more info

Review of Batman: Year One:

I really enjoy Frank Miller's vision of Batman, but this isn't my favorite of his works. I feel like the he missed an excellent opportunity to emphasize the moral ambiguity of an amateur vigilante. There are some scenes to suggest this, but the medium a short work like this doesn't allow the author ample time to develop such complex ideas. What I really want is a sequal, a Batman: Year Two.

must-add to your collection!!:

Written by Frank Miller, draw by David Mazzucchelli- the great story of Batman starting out. The back of the book is loaded with original story boards, scripts and sketches which are fascinating to look at. Probably the most striking and incredible part of the book is the hand-painted panels that were done just for this edition.
