Despite an irritating, tacked-on voice-over narration that somebody must have thought was necessary to make sense of the story (it wasn't), Last of the Dogmen is actually a very moving and magical film. Tom Berenger plays a Montana bounty hunter who helps an anthropologist (Barbara Hershey) search for the descendants of a Cheyenne tribe who disappeared in the 1870s. What the two find in a remote mountain stretch is an entire community of Cheyenne who have kept themselves cut off from the modern world. A Dances with Wolves parallel emerges as the white outsiders gradually fit in, but Last of the Dogmen stands up just fine without comparison to any other films. As in Kevin Costner's Oscar-winning movie, however, there are ways in which this film captures a similar sense of yearning, mystery, and loss. --Tom Keogh

Do Not Order - Unless You Don't Want Your Money Refunded:
The video was ordered as a Christmas present. I only ordered one item and received two. One from the United Kingdom and one from a New Jersey firm. The one I received from the UK indicated that it ws for a Region 2 DVD player only, had additional packaging and warned against opening unless we had a Region 2 DVD player. I was able to return the DVD (less $3.63 shipping out-of-pocket expense and an approximate $3.60 restocking fee). The second DVD "looked normal", and had no warning. However, when attempting... more info
One of my top ten.:
Like everything else I have ordered from Amazon - no complaints. This was one of those movies I was always going to get around buying, but somehow never did. Finally I did. It has become one of my favorites. I've watched it 3 times since I bought it.

Embrace the myth...:
The Last Of The Dogmen with Tom Berenger -- the best scriptwriters weren't hired for this one, but that doesn't spoil the story. If you aren't rooting for Tom to rejoin the tribe at the end, then you need more love and more high-toned fantasy in your life........Rick in Bethlehem, PA
Up there close to Dances With Wolves:
I think this is an excellent movie because it is able to depict the native americans as human beings that just want to live in a group in harmony with their environment. One of the failures of The Founding Fathers is they were unable to implement a policy that included the native americans in society. (Another major failure was not addressing slavery, but that is another story.) So, Manifest Destiny took over which led to the near extinction of buffalo and the unneccessary slaughter of many native... more info
