No home should be without protection from electrical power outages. Guardian monitors the utility line voltage around the clock to ensure that you always have the electricity you need. The Guardian responds within 30 seconds of utility failure and will power the circuits you choose to be the most critical needs in your home. When utility power is restored the Guardian returns your critical circuits to utility power and stands ready for the next outage. Sizing is simple. You match circuits supplied in the Guardian's emergency load center to those in your main electrical distribution panel. The Guardian's load center supplies 8 circuits (7kW-AC), 10 circuits (12kW-AC) or 12 circuits (15kW-AC). Be sure to select the number of circuits you would like to cover before choosing your generator. Note: A 240 volt circuit breaker (twice as wide, takes up two spots in your main panel and toggles are connected) is equal to 2 circuits.

Good unit for the money:
This is a pretty decent unit for the money. The only problem I've had is that the starter went out just after the warranty expired. The starters are EXPENSIVE but I think I'll probably find one online somewhere for a much better price than what Guardian is asking. Otherwise, this is a good generator. I have some electrical experience and was able to install it myself. If you aren't experienced though, it would probably be best to have it professionally installed.
Generac 15Kw Model 04390:
The starter motor failed within the first 6 months. The installer did not correctly diagnose the problem, and Generac was of no help. It was only after I found a post on the Internet about this problem that I was able to get the generator fixed. Generac "played dumb" not acknowledging that
they had many problems with the starter and finally replaced it with an improved unit. The cabinet is now rusting out, even though I waxed it annually and sprayed the interior with WD-40 several times a year. The... more info
great price, but expensive to fix when fails:
I installed my 15KW propane powered backup generator myself, having an electrician do a first class installation as well as a licensed plumber to do the propane. We also put a 1,000 gallon propane tank in the lawn to run it. From the beginning, it has done everything exactly as specified by Generac and worked flawlessly during the few power outages. In one case it ran for almost a week and we were the only house in the neighborhood with power. You've got to maintain it EXACTLY as specified in the manuals...... more info
Singing praises:
We have finally had a chance to see the generator work for real. Even though it tests itself every Saturday, last week was the first time our power went out since the generator was installed. The generator kicked in flawlessly, it worked as it was supposed to. We are extremely pleased.
