A warehouse work-horse that lasted for years.:
I'll be honest - I bought this printer a few years ago for less than $40 brand new through one of the "big box" office supply stores. I should have bought 2, especially since the toner costs more than the printer did. The 2040 has been a solid little work horse and has bee extremely reliable for several years. I print thousands of pages a month and I have never had any major issues with this printer. Toner can be expensive for any printer and one is wise to do their homework to see if there are any "tricks"... more info
The tech support has gone down the toilet!:
Brother's technical service has gone from excellent to terrible. The first few times I called, I got extremely knowledgeable and helpful people. Then my paper started jamming. I would call for help and end up running through a long exercise with each person, to no avail - a total waste of time. Then the jamming kept getting worse. I left a message for a supervisor. He called me a couple of times and got my answering machine. He didn't leave his direct number. So I called tech support again but got the... more info
Excellent Printer:
I love this printer. Even more so since I see how much it costs on the web, and I picked it up second hand in a local thrift store for only $12.00 (twelve dollars) thinking it is likely broken but may be fixable. Much to my suprise and happiness, it worked perfectly. It's quiet, quieter than my new HP 6500 by far. Page curl? Yeah there is some with the paper that was left in the printer (about 250 pages were left in it by the old owner), when I switched to my own 20lb paper the page curl was not... more info
Solid basic printer:
I bought this printer about three years ago when I was looking for a job. It is a solid printer that does the job. I've had very few problems with it jamming or causing problems. It does have a tendency to curl envelopes or paper beyond the basic printing stock. For my home needs, it's perfect and was reasonably priced.
