Back and forth:
This product does what it says it does...moves save data back and forth from the PS3 hard drive to the PS2/PS1 memory card adaptors. Useful if you still have and use a PS2 in another room, or (like I do) keep it next to the PS3 for games that the PS3 runs into an issue with (I'm looking at you, Knights of the Round in FF7). Overall, you could probably get this used and not run into an issue, or just get one among two or three people, as it isn't likely to be used often.
Perfection, one-time use:
An ideal PS3 would have everything the 60GB model had AND, among other things, a slot that accepted PS2 memory cards but... there is no such thing as an ideal PS3 :) If you have an old-style, PS2-compatible PS3, you can use this adapter exactly once. NO need to start all over with my favorite PS2 games!:

First save I loaded was Gran turismo 3 and 4 on PS2. then Castlevania SOTN and chronicles on PSone. Then R-type delta. Then my MGS2 saves. all tranferred quickly and perfectly. You can even transfer saves created on... more info
only Sony brand cards will work is a myth!:
This is in response to the reviewer who says this will only work for Sony brand memory cards (for PS1 only). Using the 40gig PS3 model I have copied data from Performance, Nuby, and Interact brand cards. Every single one I've used has copied successfully (8 third party cards total). I've loaded a few PS1 game saves on the console and they load fine. I also preserve my PS1 cards in normal humidity and temperature that are about 8 years old on average. The reviewer didn't take good care of his unreadable... more info
