KEEPING MUM stars Rowan Atkinson as an absent-minded vicar of a rural parish who is so distracted by the pressures of his job that he fails to notice his wife's (Kristin Scott Thomas) dalliance with her brash golf instructor (Patrick Swayze), his daughter's parade of new boyfriends, and his young son's regular trouncing by the school's bullies. Enter their charming new housekeeper, Grace (Maggie Smith), the answer to the family's prayers: a sweet old lady with her own distinctive definition of cleaning house - and a very unusual way of solving problems.

Not Mr. Bean!:
If you shy away from this movie because it has Rowen Atkins in it, and you're afraid it's a stupid, slapstick comedy, think again! His role in this movie is very sedate, and very charming. Something odd in Little Wallop:
I thought "Keeping Mum" was a bright, dark comedy. I have always wanted to see Rowan Atkinson in straight role. Kristin Thomas was super. As for Maggie Smith she was great!!
A Classic:
My DVD cover calls it a black comedy. I'd go a little further and call it a wicked comedy. Wickedly funny, too. We absolutely love it.
for intergenerational laughs:
Our young adult daughters insist that we see this - and we found ourselves all laughing, with a surprise ending that threw us.
