You don't want your power strip to eat up power, but you also want assurance that your equipment is safe from harsh power surges. Ideal for coaxial and phone lines as well as computer systems and home entertainment centers, the Smart Strip LCG5 employs a proprietary auto-switching technology that automatically shuts down devices that are not in use, saving you money and reducing your overall energy usage.
The Smart Strip has 10 clearly marked outlets that you plug your computer or home entertainment center peripherals into. When you power down computer or stereo, the Smart Strip automatically shuts down the power to your computer's and entertainment's center peripherals. This unique feature not only saves you money and helps the environment, it also makes shutting down your systems fast and easy. The remaining four outlets include three constantly hot outlets, marked in red, and the master outlet that controls the six switched outlets, marked in blue.
Unlike most power strips, the Smart Strip itself uses very little energy. It uses one watt of power when fully engaged and less than 1/4 of a watt when the automatically switched outlets are off.

Great idea!:

This power strip is a great idea! I purchased it as a gift for my father. It's a nice energy saver, and it's great to be able to push one button (in his case, the computer) and have everything turn on. It works just like I would have expected, and he uses all the time. I may purchase another for me!

Saving the Planet & Saving Money Made Easy:

This product works as advertised. Just plug your TV into the control plug and your DVD player, receiver, video game console, etc. into the slave outlets and viola- you cut the phantom power that these other electronics use when they're "off". I purchased two of these as well as a few other energy saving items a couple of months ago and I have seen a decrease in my power bill. I can't contribute savings completely to the Smart Strips, but I know they make a tangible difference. I definitely anticipate... more info

Go Green!:

I purchased this device for the basement home theater. As with many devices today, many even though they are "off" are really in standby. I wanted a power strip that would turn those devices off. I installed the strip with the TV as the "switch" for the other devices. It worked the first time and does a tremendous job of shutting down all the devices. Highly recommend!

Why aren't there more companies making these?:

My old computer set-up stopped being energy efficient when I installed a network back-up server for all the family computers. I could no longer turn off the main power strip at night since someone might still be up and using the internet. Unfortunately I had a number of accessories that didn't have power switches or it was difficult to get to them. A HP printer, an external drive, a set of speakers.
