Set in a modern day survival-horror universe, the co-operative gameplay of Left 4 Dead (L4D) casts four "Survivors" in an epic struggle against hordes of swarming zombies and terrifying "Boss Infected" mutants. Developed by Turtle Rock Studios and Valve, creators of the Counter-Strike and Half-Life games, the latest AI technology allows for multiplayer games of one to eight players.
A new and highly virulent strain of the rabies virus emerges and spreads through the human population with frightening speed. The pandemic's victims become grotesquely disfigured widely violent psychopaths, attacking the uninfected on sight. As one of the "lucky" few apparently immune to the sickness, you, unfortunately, are also trapped in a city crawling with thousands of the bloodthirsty Infected. Alone, you're dead. But together with a handful of fellow survivors, you might just fight your way to safety.
Players can play as a Survivor or as one of four types of Boss Infected, each of whom possess a unique mutant ability, such as a 50-foot tongue lasso or a giant belly full of explosive methane gas. The gameplay of L4D is set across four massive campaigns. The zombie population of each mission is choreographed by an AI Director that monitors the human players' actions and creates a unique and dramatic experience for them on the fly.

Best Multi player in years:

I was VERY VERY impessed with STEAM and their ability to make this one of the most solid online gaming experiences ever. Valve also did a fantastic job of ensuring a high level of random sponing each time you load the game.
With a game this good I wish the character selection and weapon options would have been more diverse. And 4 chapter simply isn't nearly enough game play. Other than that I am VERY VERY happy with my purchase.

Great Game, NEED ONLINE AND DON'T BUY USED ALL BECAUSE OF STEAM:

This game is AWESOME, you do need an online connection (visit steam dot com for more info). I bought 2 RETAIL copies of this from Amazon but THEY CANNOT BE RESOLD! Well unless you sell the steam login ID and password with them which the "seller" (original owner) will also always have access to. I used steam once before this A LONG TIME AGO, and it was bah back then. Now it's Decent, but it is a USER LICENSE. Meaning the game's key code is tied to the Steam User. This means I cannot sell 1 (let alone both)... more info

The Perfect Game for Zombie Fans:

My one star is merely for how long the installation and WAITto play the game took once I got it and not the actual game itself. I have a 512K Connection and it was the longest wait ever on a game installation.
The only drawback I can see to this game is the lack of variety in weapons. The things like Molotov's, Gas Cans, Propane Tanks are VERY cool.
The Gatlin guns are fun 2 although not quite as useful as you would imagine if the hordes happen to be comnig fro a direction the gun won't point 2... more info

Left 4 Dead....2:

Awesome game, loved playing, just mad that i waited so long to buy it bc/ now there is a Left 4 Dead 2 coming out soon and i feel all the updates promised for the first game are going to go undone. Plus the 2nd will split the gamers in two.
