Great game, check the edition:
I LOVE this game and could play it for days on end. The expansion makes playing with 5-6 people not only possible, but much more fun with the expanded board and additional colored settlements, cities, roads, etc. for more players. One word of caution: make sure you know which edition of Settlers you begin with. Mayfield has updated the board from the original (and even a second time after that) and while the main pieces fit together fine, the graphics are different and the boarder pieces don't fit together... more info
Catan the Game:
This is a great family game. We have enjoyed playing with other adults and children. It teaches children strategy and it has healthy competition. It is nice to play a game that is not full of violence and negativity.
Settlers of Catan Cities & Knights 5-6 Player Extension:
A necessary addition to any serious Catan gamer who wants to play with more than 4 people. Cities and Knights gives the "base" Settlers of Catan game a lot more depth and strategy, I highly reccommend it!
Long, long game.:
I don't care what the box says, this game is not gonna be a short one. Cities and Knights all by itself can get long (and, I think, overly complex, but that's a different review...), but doing it with 5 or 6 people just gets to be a grind after awhile. This is especially true if you have fairly evenly matched players. I love Catan, but I can't really recommend this expansion - it simply layers additional rules and complexity on top of too much - Cities and Knights itself.
