Great family camera:
I got the Xacti VPC-E2 when our old mini-DV camera stopped working. The Xacti is very easy to use and the picture quality is better than that of our old camera. It's so small that we take it everywhere. I like the waterproof feature because we can use it outside even in the snow or rain. I would recommend purchasing an extra battery because the one that comes with it lasts only about an hour. I like how easy it is to transfer the files to our computer. Handy:
There have been lots of moments that I wish I could have caught on camera...on a video camera. I already had a Kodak digital camera before I bought the Sanyo Xacti but it doesn't take very good video. I love that you can take still photos anytime during filming with the Xacti. I don't plan on going underwater with this but if I get caught out in the rain with this, I'm happy that it won't be a disater. Great little "outdoor" camera:
After disasters with leaky gaskets on other underwater camera enclosures, it is a pleasure to have the seals built in to the VPC-E2. Its novel shape makes it easy to handle while snorkeling and the standard land-based shots are fine. Although its rated waterproof to only about 5 feet, I'm surprised that it is the only Xacti with waterproofing, because that sort of durability makes it great to carry around where it might get rained on or splashed. Sanyo VPC-E2 - Not Great:
The camcorder takes poor video. I did not test the waterproof function.
Upon installing the software and taking a video, the software did not allow me to view the video on my computer - only to burn to a dvd. The quality was very grainy and unclear. Perfect size camcorder though - would be wonderful if the quality was improved.
