Inexpensive but workable.:
It looks nice, and when it plays the picture is great. however it's VERY slow loading and has frozen and restarted on more than 1 movie already. Machine won't accept firmware update. Customer support has yet to return my call. Setup is easy though. 2 wires to plug in, power and hdmi. I had to turn off the hdmi interlink between tv and blu ray, it kept tripping the tv over when I wasn't watching it. If you are just starting out and looking base level, this may work. rental disks may or may not play!
OK for an entry-level Blu-Ray player:
As this is my first Blu-Ray player, I can't compare it to other models, so my only point of reference is HD 1080i Cable TV. I had hoped to achieve better PQ (picture quality) than Cable TV, especially Cable TV's bandwidth-limited over-compression. This affects motion, which creates blurred pixel/mosaic breakup of the picture. The Sylvania Blu-Ray player overcomes this limitation that Cable TV has.
