Customer Review: Ann Patchett is an extraordinary writer, and "Run" is an incredible book. I read it quickly once, because the story was engrossing, and then slowly the second time, to savour the writing. I've given to several friends and relatives.
Customer Review: I was expecting more from this book after hearing glowing reviews from trusted sources. It dragged for me. While I loved the language and imagery that Patchett used, I had no emotional attachment to the characters. I found most of them to be quite shallow and unsympathetic. While I believe that the... more info
Customer Review: Unlike many reviewers, I was not conned into reading this book for some sort of academic project, but rather for personal enjoyment. I expected nothing more than another great work by George Orwell, whose book 1984 was nothing short of a masterpiece. But let me tell you, Animal Farm is a disgrace.... more info
Customer Review: This Book is a very motivating read... went through it quickly. The speech has some very important message for all of us at any stage of life. It really does spark deep thought!
Customer Review: I came to this book after reading Bel Canto. Curious about Patchett, this book about friendship-love pulled at me - reminiscent of my friendships with female friends. So I also picked up Lucy Grealy's book Autobiography of a Face. I read that first, then I read Truth & Beauty. I wanted to... more info
Customer Review: Ann Patchett skillfully crafts a novel that evokes deep compassion for all characters, despite their flaws. I have read all of her works, and this is my favorite. The Audio CD version reader brings the novel to life; she is an amazing actress! I recommend the book and audio version without... more info
Customer Review: I agree with all the reviewers who rated it a 4 or 5. It's like a really good movie (usually foreign). I keep thinking about it and thinking about it (finished it last night) and I don't want to read anything else because it will spoil how I'm feeling. There is a depth to this novel that is hard to... more info
Bel Canto (P.S.) from Harper Perennial Modern Classics Price: $11.65
Customer Review: Like a large-scale opera production, Ann Pratchett's Bel Canto magnifies emotions and moments until the story itself becomes larger than life. The novel opens as dignitaries from many countries gather in the vice presidential palace of an unnamed South American country to celebrate the birthday of... more info
Customer Review: I'm a big fan of Ann Patchett, so I stuck with this book and was happy I did. It wasn't as wonderful as some of her other books, but I enjoyed it and passed it on to someone else (which I don't do if I don't like the book). Certainly not a waste of time.
